OXFORD - The North Carolina Checkers Association will hold its 119th state open checkers tournament this weekend at The Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St. The two-day tournament will feature the best checker players from across the state and is an open format, meaning those who are interested can register between 8 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Friday.
This is the first time in more than 30 years the tournament has been held in this area. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and the event will be held in the basement of the York Rite Chapel on the campus of The Masonic Home for Children.
